Battle of the brands is my attempt to showcase alternatives you can find most accessible to you. We can’t deny the intense competition among several brands from curly hair product category. More and more brands are mushrooming in this space daily but what can you really trust?

Styling Products
Here’s my first comparison Both leaveins have protein, while both hair gels have flaxseed gel. So they are similar in those broader aspects, however, vary drastically on prices!
Ecoslay Vs Arata
- Ecoslay Rice Pudding and Orange Marmalade Flaxseed Gel with
- Arata’s NEW Leavein Conditioner and their original Flaxseed Gel
While the USA Brand Ecoslay is available in only one shop in India for about INR 4000 (use my code HONESTLIZ to save 10% here). Homegrown brand ARATA is available for a fraction of that! Arata is easily available on Amazon and Sublimelife as well, but encourage you compare with the brand website for the best deals! (use my affiliate code HONESTLIZ to save 20% on orders over INR 999, even during sales, on brand website here)
This combo is ideal for colored hair, fine hair, wavy hair. I do not recommend this combo for low porosity hair because the protein from the leaveins (and also plant protein from the flaxseeds) can be too drying.
To make this combo work for you, make sure your hair is hydrated. I styled these products on my wet hair clean hair. By clean I mean, I used ACV rinse to remove any buildup from past products before styling. Remember styling products work best on clean hair!
If you have hard water then make sure you’ve detoxed your hair before trying this combo. This way, your hair will be clean from hard water buildup and should work better than before. Let me know!
Hope this was easy to follow. This list is not exhaustive; it is just what works for my coarse curly hair because they are coconut-free, and silicone-free also. Don’t worry, these work for all my 1:1 clients with different textures as well. You just have to use the one best for your texture. If you need more help leave a comment below or Ask Liz here.
I made a long list of more products to compare like this, so stay tuned for this battle of the brands series! To SAVE YOUR MONEY (and sanity! ha) Really, now that we have reliable Indian products you don’t have to feel left out when you don’t get a chance to use the popular international ones.
Leave a comment below if you need a specific alternative for products you’ve seen me use on Instagram, and I would be happy to demonstrate them for you.
