It does what? Here are 9 secrets about the Denman Brush you must know ASAP. The original “hairdressers’ hairbrush”, the Denman Brush burst into the curly hair community in 2016. Since brushing curly hair is such a taboo, you would think why the best curly beauties IG are raving about this, right? Only a couple months ago I was looking for products that would help form curl clumps and there it was. I love how the Denman helps me detangle, style, and prevent frizz all in one go. Why our world would end if the Denman Brush disappeared
Denman sells over 40,000 brushes each MONTH! Manufactured in Ireland, shipped from the UK, these hair brushes are not available in retail India, yet. However, hairdressers and barbers around the world swear by this brand. Their exciting professional tools such as brushes, combs, and accessories are manufactured with an innovative technique. This brand has a range of styling, detangling, grooming, and even scented brushes! Denman has a brush for every need, really and it’s just brilliant.
Pick the Classic Styling Denman Brush for Curly Hair
For curly hair, though, you want to use the classic styling brush. The way this Denman is made sets it apart from all other hairbrushes. This is why this brush is the preferred choice for curlies around the world!
- Narrow Base: Allows narrow exposure to focus on each curl section for clumps.
- Rubber Padding: Prevents static, unlike plastic brushes that cause frizz!
- Nylon Teeth: Vegan, flexible, and designed to be gentle on both tangled and detangled hair.
- Adjustable bristles: Make changes to suit your style and curl pattern preference.
Hunger Games Guide to Denman Brush for curly hair
You want to be careful with anything you use for your curly hair. Your hair is fragile and so, you want the best products for curly hair, no compromise!
#1. Detangle with Denman, but only with a product.
You should never brush dry curly hair, right? Your curls are fragile; brushing and tugging dry curly hair causes breakage. If you need to detangle, I suggest you apply your favourite leave-in or curl cream. Detangle with our fingers first and then use the Denman brush from mid-length hair, for curl definition. Don’t let your products touch on your scalp!
#2. For even Product Distribution
Yes, you totally want even product distribution! Whether you use the Denman with your favourite conditioner in the shower; your favourite deep conditioner, with your curl cream or oil, use this Denman brush to spread the product properly all over your curly hair.
#3. Use Denman to prevent Frizz (yay!)
Don’t be fooled! More than the brushing action it is the rubber padding base and the nylon bristles that help smoothen all the flyaways. The products you use make a big impact. So using the Denman brush with natural CG-safe products will help you prevent frizz.
#4. Denman for styling, but before gel
In my experience, Denman-brushing with the gel causes frizz. You want to detangle with your leave-in first, graze your curl cream over and then use the Denman to enable your desired curl pattern. Once the curl clumps are formed, lock them with your gel.
#5. Modify rows for desired curl definition
For tighter and smaller curls, keep all the bristles of your Denman brush. I prefer bigger, fatter curl clumps and to achieve that, I removed 4 alternate rows. Besides, the modified rows are gentler for your curly hair to detangle too, so win-win! You can keep three or four if that works better for you. Remember, all of us are different. Trial and error is the way to go about finding what works best for your curly hair.
Removing Rows from the Denman Brush
Gently peel the top rubber padding out and adjust the rows according to your preference. Practice trial and error to find what works best for you!

Doing Denman Brush the Right Way
- Apply leave-in
- Finger detangle
- Apply curl cream
- Divide your curly hair into sections.
- Move Denman gently from mid-length.
- Shake the brushed section to encourage clumps.
- Lock and seal the curl clumps with gel, praying hands method.
- For best results, air dry for 1-2 hours; Apply little gel again and diffuse dry.
After watching countless YouTube videos and following Instagram gurus, I loved how Adina styles her hair using the Denman. I follow her method of using the Denman, here is a quick video:
From where and how much did I buy it for?
I bought mine for 1,100 INR from Amazon in July 2017. Here is a quick affiliate link, if you want to get one for yourself or your little one’s curly hair Denman Medium Styling Brush, 7 Row.
If the prices seem inflated, look closely for “other offers” sometimes there are other sellers with prices as low as 700 INR.
Alternatively, you can also buy your Denman Brush from Naturalistic Products, UK. They deliver within two weeks too – NO CUSTOMS! If you know of others who need curly hair products, buy it together and split the shipping costs.
If you live in Pune, you want to go straight to “Maharashtra Stores” on MG Road and buy your Denman today!
Tips to discern if Your Denman is a fake!
- The base will be bright orange, instead of the original salmon orange colour.
- The bristles will feel hard like plastic, instead of the soft nylon teeth.
- The handle will be dark brown, instead of the original jet black colour.
