Saw me raving about Flora & Curl products on my Instagram? As a reviewer, I’m your guinea pig! I hope my Flora & Curl Superfruit Hair Oil review inspires you to decide if you need this product in your life.. Let me know if you try

But who inspired me?

Back in May 2017, a rogue Salon treatment (L’oreal Mythic Oil & Mask) “ruined” my hair and I was desperate for my curls. After devouring Instagram for months, I found beautiful Elaine in July 2017.

This above post inspired me to think about scalp massages and you can see my comment in here asking Elaine’s recommendation for oils to start my journey. She recommends Flora & Curl! I got mine August 2017.

I alternate multiple oils for my scalp massages, styling, and deep conditioning treatments. The oils I use have nourishing, hair growth function/properties but of all the oils I use, I prefer the Flora scent! Its like sweet, citrusy, invigorating-like hair-perfume for me.

I don’t prefer to use it every day.

Here’s a little science-y fact called sensory adaptation. Its like, you don’t notice your house-smell when you return from work, but it smells strange when you come back from holiday. Your nose gets used to your every day smells, right?  I prefer savouring the Flora & Curl Superfruit Hair Oil scent and that’s why I use it every other day only, not daily. If you prefer floral scents then you will love using Floracurl oil.

Flora & Curl Ingredients

It’s called AFRICAN CITRUS SUPERFRUIT hair oil for a reason, people! This ultimate hair protective elixir has Mongongo Oil, Manketti Oil, and Baobab Oil and all ingredients work together to rescue dry, dull hair and also restores your hair’s shine. The other delicious superfruit oils are Papaya Oil, Avocado Oil, and Watermelon Oil. WOW. Of course, it has other popular hair growth ingredients like Castor Oil, Grapeseed, Avocado, and a natural preservative, Limonene. Learn more from the Flora & Curl website. All in all, super ingredients to promote hair scalp health!

Sounds heavy, but is it?

Not at all! It’s not greasy. I love that this is oil is light, some fine-curlies even find it lighter than Rx oil. I use it for on my toddler’s fine cherub curls too and it’s not heavy. It’s the go-to oil for my eldest daughter, she follows my wavy hair routine.  I usually pair this oil with heavy styling products, for example, Cantu Curl Activator or SM Smoothie to balance. Here’s a video; notice how I use Flora & Curl oil to “seal my ends”.

What does “SEALING ENDS” mean?

It means, after applying your products, you rake/scrunch/praying hands your favorite oil to seal in the moisture that your other products like the leave-in or gel give you. Lock it with a protective wall of oil to prevent split ends. Also, the oil protects and locks the curl clump so it doesn’t open up later in few days.

Does that happen to you? Curls opening later? Yes, trying scrunch in any light oil such as this one, or coconut oil, grapeseed or jojoba oil at the end of your routine to seal your ends. The more moisture, the more protection, the better is it is to maintain your curls through the week.

If you have low-porosity hair then Flora & Curl is the perfect oil to style with also. A little goes a long way with this oil and it keeps your fine hair juicy-moisturized in the process too. Here, just look at Emma’s curls, gorgeous!

Benefits of using Flora & Curl Superfruit Hair oil

  • SEALING – 12 Antioxidant-rich oils instantly seal in moisture.
  • SMOOTHENS FRIZZ – Enhances natural sheen to create high shine and silkiness.
  • REPAIRING – Protects against split ends, environmental damage, and breakage.
  • PROTECTING – Against harmful UV rays and heat from straighteners and hair dryers.
  • STIMULATES HAIR GROWTH – Vitamin C-rich fruit infusion balances and purifies the scalp.
  • BALANCING – Naturally soothes dry and itchy scalp

I agree when they say it’s the Perfect formula for dry, dull, and damaged hair and scalp. Trueeee.

How to Use Flora & Curl Oil for styling and treatments

This is what the company recommends:

To Add Shine and Reduce Frizz: Apply a few drops, and warm oil between your palms and apply unto clean wet or dry hair to seal ends and add shine. Use on the finished style to add shine and softness.

For a therapeutic hair and scalp treatment: To absorb all the active benefits in the oil, apply oil starting from the scalp (take a deep breath while breathing in the therapeutic aroma, that will calm your nerves, and relieve stress) massage into hair/scalp to stimulate the hair follicles. Cover hair with plastic cap. Let sit for 30 minutes or overnight.

Added Tips: Add a few drops to your favorite shampoo or deep conditioner to impart extra softness, moisture, and promote healthier hair. Apply to wet or even dry hair to boost moisture in second, third, and fourth-day hair to revive curls, coils, and waves.

Sun / Sea / Water Protection: Generously apply oil to hair to coat the hair shaft. Twist hair up in individual sections and you are good to go!

As a multi-tasking hair savior, it can be used as an overnight hot oil treatment, a pre-poo treatment, a frizz-taming serum and it also works brilliantly as a defense against damages caused by the sun, sea and chlorinated water. An essential for everyday hair protection.

As a precaution, test a small area on your skin, to make sure you don’t have any allergic reaction to any natural oil. While reactions are rare, in some cases people may experience irritation from certain types of oil. If irritation occurs discontinue use.

This is how I use this oil:

    • Daily Scalp Massages – just 1-2 pumps of oil, not too much!
    • Scrunch Out The Crunch (SOTC) – breaking the gel cast to make hair softer.
    • Mix it with my deep conditioning treatments to make it EXTRA.
    • LOC method = Leave-in + Oil + Curl Cream (order of application
    • LOG method = Leave-in + Oil + Gel (order of application)
    • LGO/LCO method – The “sealing ends” technique we discussed above.

Flora & Curl – The Brand

I love supporting small businesses and if it’s run by women, then that’s a definite plus for me! Rose Marie, the founder is beautiful, enterprising, and awe-inspiring. She uses botanical ingredients in all her products. Why that’s the good thing you ask?

Water is one of the cheapest ingredients for any manufacturer. Water and other cheap chemical lab ingredients such as silicone keep their overall cost low. If you use products containing mostly water, you will notice that you may have dry hair issues. That’s exactly the ethos behind creating the Flora & Curl line. To combat dry hair with natural, high-quality botanical ingredients.

The best part? This brand listens to its customers. Rose is all ears for feedback and creates products that meet textured hair needs. This is really the need of the hour! We all need that brand that truly understands our hair needs and Flora & Curl does that for me. Here’s a video from the founder:

But the price!

Sure, one bottle costs a bit with shipping BUT did you see the ingredient list? I’ve never ever heard of such variety of exotic goodness in ONE product! They don’t compromise on quality, that’s for sure. As mentioned earlier, cheap ingredients like water, silicone, etc. works better for the manufacturers, that’s why cheap products are cheap.

I love how the bottle is designed, like a pump, so it’s easier to handle also. My first bottle I’ve used it since Aug 2017.  It’s Feb 2018 now and I still have ¼ of the bottle left.  So, yeah this 7oz or 200ml bottle lasts you a really long time even if you use it 2-3x a week. Definitely worth the price.
