A few weeks ago you saw me live on Facebook for the first time. In that video, I was talking about all the curly hair essentials and one of them was a leave-in conditioner. Here is my Garnier Whole Blends Legendary Olive leave in conditioner review, some life lessons, and the biggest reasons I won’t use it ever again.
Do your own research before buying curly hair products.
I was looking for a leave-in conditioner, and I didn’t want to buy “ the expensive ones”. When one of my favourite YouTubers Sun-Kissed Alba, recommended this silicone-free product, I Amazon-ed it and found Garnier Whole Blends Legendary Olive Leave-in conditioner is affordable too. So I jumped at it before considering if this leave in conditioner was CG-safe for me or whether my low/medium porosity curly hair even needs a leave-in conditioner… important considerations!
Only invest in CG safe curly hair products.
Garnier Whole Blends Legendary Olive leave in conditioner is CG friendly because it is silicone-free and sulphate-free. CG friendly products are like that; having four good ingredients and maybe just one bad ingredient which quickly makes it “CG-friendly”. Ughhhhh. Just because it doesn’t have the other bad ingredients, it doesn’t make it “SAFE”. Garnier Whole Blends Legendary Olive leave in conditioner is not CG safe. It has a rubbing alcohol – isopropyl alcohol. This means if you use it in large quantities, it robs your hair of its moisture, causing dry frizzy hair.
Always know ingredients of your curly hair product before buying.
As far as the ingredient concentration goes, one of my best curly hair gurus, Asha Barrak shared on her Facebook group once, “Indian Curl Pride” the first few ingredients have the biggest concentrations. For example, if the product says it has coconut oil, see if the coconut oil appears in the first five ingredients. If you see it way down below the ingredient list, then you can assume this product only has tiny quantities of this ingredient in the whole product.
CG-Safe products are a little pricey but invest in them, anyway.
I use the word invest because CG-safe natural curly hair products are natural, with NO baddies at all. Plus they go on your body, in your hair and it will last you a few months. The money you spend on a product which is maybe 500 rupees more than the regular CG-”friendly” product with a baddie. CG-safe products are a good investment because the cost of hair fall, hair damage, and dullness is way higher. These problems cost way more physical and psychological than a fantastic CG safe curly hair product which instead heals, restores, and makes your curly hair shine in all its glory!
Don’t use Leave-in Conditioner for low porosity hair refreshes
The moment I found out Garnier Whole Blends Legendary Olive leave-in conditioner isn’t CG-Safe curly hair product, I stopped using and I got amazing results. I got volume and my hair felt oh so light! Heavy leave-in conditioners weigh down low porosity hair, specifically for your curly hair refreshes on non-wash days. My results are also from using overall great natural curly hair products and methods. However, never have I got THIS much volume and the biggest reason could be NOT using a leave-in conditioner. Try it and let me know if you get the same results too!
KNOW your hair porosity before you use or buy curly hair products
If you have high porosity hair, you NEED a leave-in conditioner EVERY DAY. A leave-in conditioner not only helps you detangle, but it also adds moisture, tame flyaways and fights frizz. This is why it is SO important to find out your hair porosity and follow the methods subsequently. For low porosity hair, you don’t need a leave-in on non-wash days. Take this quiz and answer honestly to know your hair type and hair porosity.
Garnier Whole Blends Legendary Olive leave-in conditioner Review. Why I stopped using it:
Garnier Whole Blends Legendary Olive leave in conditioner is not CG safe. It has one baddie ingredient, a drying alcohol. Since it’s listed way below in the ingredient list, we can assume that it has small quantities of it but it is still there. I follow 100 percent curly girl method now and that’s why I will not use this leave-in conditioner anymore. Is this working for you? That’s great! But if you are considering it because it’s cheap I would urge you to consider again. Do you want to be 100 percent CG? Then don’t buy or use this Garnier whole blends Legendary Olive leave in conditioner.
If you already bought it after you saw my video, don’t worry.
Lots of curly girls love this leave-in! Here is a quick review and tutorial from one my favourite YouTubers, Tia Kirkby:
SO! The biggest lesson you can learn my experience is to KNOW your curly hair product before investing. I understand bloggers make our life simple with their tips, methods, and product recommendations.
Use your own discernment, though.
Just take a pause to think whether these products that work for them, will they work for me? If you also want to follow CG method 100 percent, then do your own research before buying your curly hair product, just to make sure what you heard from the best bloggers is CG safe for you or not.
