Red Clay

The star ingredient is the Red Clay which is also known as bentonite clay or Moroccan red clay farmed from the Moroccan mines. This legendary clay has been used for restoring hair since the early 8th century! Here are the key benefits of using red clay for your curly hair:

  • Detoxifies Hair

  • Natural Shampoo

  • Deeply Nourishes Hair

  • Stops Hair from Thinning

  • Removes Product Build-Up

  • Prevents Hair Breakage

  • Good for Low Porosity Hair

  • Conditions Hair

  • Reduces Frizz

Rawkyn clay mask also contains murumuru butter, chamomile, coconut oil, and sage. This protein-rich clay mask also contains vitamin B5 which makes it great for ALL hair types!

Section hair, apply on soaking WET hair for better distribution. Rinse just after 20 minutes of application and style as usual. If you have low porosity hair, this deep conditioner doesn’t even need heat to help penetration. WOW.

Confused CG followers refuse to try it

You know I am an ardent CG follower right? Do you know where I get all my CG information from? Straight from the horse’s mouth that is Lorraine Massey’s Curly Girl Handbook. For whatever reasons, the original CG method nowadays is blown way out of proportion. Many free websites help you decide if a product is CG approved or not. So if you paste Rawkyn clay mask’s ingredients into any of these websites, they will say Rawkyn is not CG because of one ingredient – witch hazel.

Instead of looking at free websites, I referred to the Curly Girl Handbook and you know what? There is no mention of witch hazel in the book! Even if it is somewhere, I am already aware witch Hazel extracts is a drying alcohol and LARGE AMOUNTS of witch hazel dry out your hair.

In my experience, Rawkyn has not done anything to dry my hair, instead, I have great moisturized hair for the whole week. If you have a problem with witch hazel being in your product, then I’m sorry. You may be missing out on a great restorative curly hair product.

A tidbit about Witch Hazel

You don’t have to listen when I say; witch hazel is actually a healing astringent, made from the bark and leaves of Hamamelis virginiana, the common or North American witch-hazel shrub. Many of us in India may not know it, but TONS around the world use witch hazel as a facial toner, to soothe skin irritations, and tumors. Here are a few trusted resources and their articles on witch hazel benefits.

Why I love the Red Rawkyn Clay mask, so much!

To answer this question you have to answer mine – why do you deep condition at all?

  • Deep conditioning at least once a week helps your curly hair restore moisture so,

  • You need not wash your hair multiple times in the week.

  • Longer days without washing gets your scalp healthy.

  • A healthy scalp releases more natural oils which encourages more hair growth,

  • Overall, giving you low maintenance curly hair through the week!

In my experience that is exactly what I got from this gold-star product – Rawkyn clay mask. Look at this image here comparing an honest Rawkyn effect with Amsardeva Hair Mask and Matrix Biolage Hydrasource Mask (which has a drying alcohol Isopropyl Alcohol and you must also stop using if you want healthy hair, by the way).

  • With Matrix Biolage Hydrasource mask, my hair dried up the very next day! gahhh.

  • With Amsarveda, I went two days without my hair drying out. Meh.

  • With Rawkyn, I went 6 days! Best Hair WEEK. Ever. That’s Day 4, no refresh too.

What else can I say? Yes, I’ll say this. If you still can’t decide about Rawykn Clay mask, look at this image below. The white cream in my right hand is the Amsarveda mask, I threw the Matrix away. So, yeah, That’s how much of the mask I need for each section of my curly hair. The red clay in my left hand – That’s how much Rawkyn I use for each section of my curly hair.

For those of you skeptical about paying for just a 4oz tube, there is a reason for that. I’ve been using that small tube since July 2017, and with September 2017 almost ending, there is still half of it left! Dude.

  1. I live in Canada and this product has such high shipping costs to order. Can you recommend any other deep conditioners that work well? Looking for a new one and hate buying a product without a recommendation. Thanks!

    1. Hey Lauren! I understand, well Mielle Mint DC also has protein and so does most of Shea Moisture and Devacurl deep conditioning masks too. Which brands are more accessible to you?

    1. Yes Merian helped Sharon to create Rawkyn 🙂 No wonder even the products Rawkyn and Bouncecurl are best friends, they are super compatible.
