HONESTLIZ Divorce: What You Didn’t See Behind the Smile

What is the 7 year rule in divorce? How to overcome divorce as a woman? Can sexless marriage be grounds for divorce? What is the biggest mistake in a divorce?

If you’ve searched for HonestLiz divorce, you’re probably wondering what actually happened behind the scenes.

For years you saw me as HONESTLIZ – The woman on Instagram – the curly hair blogger, stylist, creator, business owner and mother of three.

You saw the hair tutorials, client transformations, brand collaborations, travelling, motherhood and the smiles.

But you didn’t see everything happening privately inside my marriage.

After 15 years of marriage, I am now going through divorce. And because HonestLiz divorce has become something people are searching for, I want to address it in the only way I can: by sharing my own experience.

This isn’t a legal statement or an attempt to publicly argue my case nor asking you to choose sides. It’s about giving context to a chapter of my life that many people never saw.

The HonestLiz divorce story is not simply a story about a marriage ending. It is also a story about motherhood, faith, separation, rebuilding, and learning how to begin again.

There are details I will keep private, especially while the legal process continues. But there are parts of my story I can tell. And I think it’s important to tell them because when someone disappears from a community they once loved, people naturally fill in the blanks.

Sometimes, the story that gets told in your absence isn’t the story you lived.

This is my story.

The Woman You Saw Online

Social media is strange. You can watch someone’s life every day and still know almost nothing about what is happening inside their home.

When people search for the HonestLiz divorce, they may see only the fact that a marriage ended. They won’t necessarily see the years of life that came before that decision.

My work required me to show up. So I showed up. I created content, answered messages, worked with clients. I packed orders, built a business. And I raised my children. I even travelled to different cities to meet my clients, smiled and kept creating.

What you didn’t see was how much energy it sometimes took simply to keep functioning.

There were years when I was carrying an enormous amount of responsibility. The children, the home, the business, the finances. The emotional weight of keeping everything moving.

I became very good at surviving busy seasons.

But eventually, I had to admit something to myself: I wasn’t thriving.

The Truth About Leaving My Marriage

When Survival Becomes Your Normal

There is a strange thing that happens when you live under prolonged stress.

You stop noticing how abnormal your normal has become and you get used to being tired and to tension. You get used to solving the next problem and just putting yourself last. And because you’re still getting things done, everyone assumes you’re okay.

I wasn’t.

There were experiences within my marriage that became serious enough that I eventually documented what was happening and sought legal protection.

I won’t turn this blog into an evidence file. That’s not what this is for.

There are people whose job it is to deal with the legal details.

My job here is simply to tell you what it felt like to live through my own life.

“She Abandoned Her Children”

One of the most painful parts of the HonestLiz divorce story has been seeing assumptions made about my relationship with my children.

Of everything I could hear said about me, this is probably the statement that hurts the most. Because I know how fiercely I have loved my children. I didn’t abandon them.

I was separated from them under circumstances I did not choose. And being physically separated from your children is a very different thing from choosing to walk away from them.

I continued trying to maintain my relationship with them and thinking about them. Praying for them, planning for them, missing them. And hoping that circumstances would eventually allow us to be together again.

When that opportunity came, I didn’t suddenly become a mother.

I had been their mother the entire time.

Coming Back to India

Returning to India became an important chapter of my life during the HonestLiz divorce. It was not simply about moving countries. It was about rebuilding a sense of home.

Something unexpected happened when I came back to India. I started sleeping again. Not just physically. Something inside me began to settle.

My body started changing, my stress reduced and I began feeling healthier. My skin improved and my hair began growing again. I started losing weight in a way that felt healthy rather than forced.

But the biggest change wasn’t physical. I felt peace. And I don’t think I understood how much peace I had been missing until I experienced it again.

Sometimes your body tells you things your mind has learned to ignore.

For months I had prayed for a way to have my children with me again. I didn’t know what that would look like or when it would happen. But circumstances eventually changed. And when they did, I was ready.

Rebuilding My Life After Separation

I Had to Build a Home Again

Having your children with you isn’t simply about having them physically in the same house.

You have to rebuild a life around them. School, transport, meals, schedules, activities, friendships, church, homework, bedtimes. The ordinary things that make children feel secure. I had to think about all of it, as usual alone. And honestly?

I loved doing it. Because there is something deeply beautiful about rebuilding ordinary life. Making breakfast, finding school uniforms, listening to stories, planning their week, watching them settle. Seeing them laugh.

These aren’t dramatic moments. But they’re the moments I prayed for.

What About the Person in My Life Now?

This is probably the part some people will be curious about. Yes, there is someone in my life today. And yes, people may have opinions about that. But I don’t want a new relationship to become the explanation for the end of my marriage. It wasn’t.

I left because my marriage had reached a point where I could no longer continue living inside it. The details of that belong where they need to belong.

I’m not going to pretend that every decision I’ve made since then has been perfect. I’m still learning, still praying, still healing and I am still asking God for wisdom.

But I also refuse to allow a new chapter of my life to rewrite the reasons I had to close the previous one.

What My Faith Has Taught Me

My faith has changed the way I understand this entire season.

For a long time, I thought faith meant knowing exactly what God was going to do. Now I think sometimes faith is simply taking the next step when you don’t know what comes after it.

I’ve prayed prayers that weren’t answered the way I expected. I’ve cried prayers, prayed angry prayers, grateful prayers. And I’ve prayed,

“Lord, I don’t know what to do anymore. Please lead me.”

Again and again, I have found that God gives me enough light for the next step. Not always the entire road.

Just the next step.

I Don’t Need Everyone to Understand

I’ve thought a lot about what I want people to know.

Do I need everyone to choose my side? No.

Do I need everyone to understand every decision I’ve made? No.

Do I need to destroy another person publicly to prove that I survived? Absolutely not.

There are things I will never explain on the internet. Not because I’m ashamed. Because some things deserve privacy and some things are simply not mine to tell.

I can tell you what I experienced, what I learned, how I changed and I can tell you what God has done in my heart.

That is enough.

The Woman I Am Becoming

I don’t want this chapter of my life to be defined by divorce Or by conflict Or by what other people think happened. I want it to be defined by rebuilding.

By motherhood, faith, courage, by learning, by becoming healthier, becoming more present, by building a business that serves women, creating a home where my children feel loved and heard. And by learning to live without constantly being afraid of what comes next.

I am still figuring it out. But I’m here. I’m working, parenting, rebuilding, praying. And for the first time in a very long time…I am at peace.

What You Didn’t See

The HonestLiz divorce is one chapter of my life. It isn’t the entirety of who I am. Maybe that’s the lesson I want to leave you with.

You can know someone’s name. Follow their Instagram. Watch their videos. See their smile. And still know almost nothing about their life.

So I’m learning not to judge people based on the chapter I happen to see. There is always more to someone’s story. And sometimes the person who looks the strongest is the person who has spent years quietly trying to survive.

I don’t know what you are carrying privately. Maybe nobody else knows either. But if you’re in that season, I want you to know this:

You don’t have to have your entire future figured out today. Take the next step. Ask God for wisdom. Protect what matters. Get the help you need.

And keep going.

Your current chapter is not necessarily your final one.

God is still writing.
