Unpacking Dove Beautiful Curls Sulphate Free Shampoo

Let’s start with the basics – the Shampoo. I was immediately impressed by how richly it lathers up. A little goes a long way, promising longevity in each bottle. The real game-changer, though, is its excellent slip. This not only speeds up the washing time but also eases the detangling process. Quick note: Most shampoos won’t help detangle, but this one surprises me.

This Dove Curls Shampoo is all about gentle cleansing. I recommend it for simple washdays, especially if you don’t need extra prep like masks or pre-shampoo treatments. It’s a versatile solution, perfect for those with healthy hair

The formula’s softening properties make it great for moisture. Ideal for hair that feels dry, hard, and brittle. Remember, this entire line is protein-free. If you have fine, colored, or transitioning hair, consider adding protein products to balance.

Popular Qs about the Dove Curls Shampoo

  • Would you use this shampoo on a regular basis, without hesitation? Absolutely! This shampoo is a must-have for your regular hair care routine. I personally put this shampoo to the test, using it consistently for several rounds. As expected, I was in need of a clarifying shampoo after a while, as it’s important to switch up our hair care products to address different needs. No matter your hair type, incorporating different shampoos at different intervals is crucial for optimal hair health. If you’re looking for a reliable and effective option, this shampoo will definitely exceed your expectations!
  • Does it work with hard water? This shampoo has a chelating ingredient “disodium edta” so, yes! But it’s listed at the bottom of the ingredient list. That tells us it’s low in concentration, making this a gentle shampoo but still safe to use in hard water.

To keep your hair healthy, it’s important to use both a gentle shampoo, like Dove curls, and a clarifying or chelating shampoo. In India, you can try the Manetain Oh So Clean! Clarifying Shampoo. Use code HONESTLIZ for a 10% discount on their website.

Dove Curls Shampoo Ingredients: water, sodium methyl cocoyl taurate, cocamdipropyl betane, dimethiconol and trideceth-10 and tea dodecylbenzenesulfonate, citric acid monohydrate, polyquaternium-10, gluconolactone, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, glycol distearate and laureth-4 and lactic acid, glycerin, sodium benzoate, perfurm, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, Sodium Chloride, Carbomer, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, ppg-9, disodium edta, sodium hydroxide, benzyl salicylate, hexyl cinnamal, linalool

Dove Beautiful Curls Deep Moisture Miracle Hair Mask: Navigating Sensitivity

Now, my hair and coconut oil aren’t the best of friends. This sensitivity means I can’t use products high in coconut oil content.

Using both the mask and conditioner together left my curls frizzier and stiffer than I prefer, something that often happens with strong coconut oil concentrations. This could be unique to me, but it’s worth considering, especially if you have hair similar to mine.

Coconut Oil Sensitivity: A Special Mention

The combo of mask and conditioner didn’t quite dance well on my sensitive curls. But remember, what’s true for me might not be for you. My curl journey has taught me that we all have different hair adventures. Read more about coconut oil sensitivity here.

Diving into Dove Beautiful Curls Detangling Conditioner

Moving on to the Dove Curls Conditioner, this product feels like a luxurious treat for my curls. The slip is exceptional, making detangling a breeze. With key ingredients like Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, and Glycerin, this conditioner brings a moisture boost that leaves my rough coarse hair feeling pampered.

This conditioner’s silicone content was a twist for me. I usually avoid silicone-heavy products, but this one surprised me. It delivered bouncy, voluminous curls without the stickiness or limpness I sometimes associate with silicones.

I even experimented with using the Dove Curls Conditioner as a leave-in conditioner; the results were pretty impressive. Remember, this was my personal experiment, and the brand doesn’t specifically recommend it as a leave-in.

Dove Curls Conditioner Ingredients: water, cetearyl alcohol, dimethicone and amodimethicone and peg-7, propylheptyl ether and cetrimonium chloride, petrolatum, behentrimonium chloride and dipropylene glycol, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, glycerine, perfume, hydroxyethylcellulose and sodium nitrate, gluconolactone, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, peg-180M, disodium edta, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, lactic acid, sodium hydroxide, Sodium Chloride, methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone, benzyl salicylate,  hexyl cinnamal, linalool

Important Note about the Ingredients: “methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone” commonly referred to as “Itchy M’s,” have been associated with allergic reactions in some individuals. As a cautious measure, it is advisable to avoid these ingredients in hair products, especially if you are sensitive to them. If using a hair mask or conditioner containing these ingredients, it is recommended to avoid direct application to the scalp to minimize potential discomfort or itchiness.

Diving into Dove Beautiful Curls Defining Gel

Last on the list is the Dove Beautiful Curl Defining Gel. Its hold is gentle, so I applied a couple of pumps to each section for even distribution. To achieve medium hold, I reapplied during plopping or mid-drying. What’s interesting is that despite the gentle soft hold, my curls stayed soft and flake-free.

For fine hair, this gel could be a one-and-done solution. For color-treated curls or coarser hair like mine, consider pairing it with a leave-in or hair cream for better hold. You might need more gel than usual which is sad considering the bottle is so small. The key is applying it on damp hair as the brand suggests. It also works nicely on dry hair so try it between washdays to refresh your hair.

Dove Curls Gel Ingredients: water, glycerine, propylene glycol, peg 40 hydrogenated castor oil, polyquaternium-10, vp/va copolymer, polyquaternium-11, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, disodium edta, cetrimonium chloride, perfume, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, benzyl salicylate, hexyl cinnamal, citronellol, geraniol, limonene, linalool

Considerations:

While this range might not be your protein hero, its moisture game is on point. And don’t worry, the shampoo and gel are coconut oil-free. A little shampoo goes a long way in terms of application. And the conditioner doubles as a leave-in, if you need it.

The whole line has a mild salon-type-fragrance, almost nostalgic. Quick note: I usually use fragrance free products or products with mild scent, I cannot stand strong fragrances. So this one, I appreciated.

Price and Product Comparison: For the results it delivers, the price is a steal. There are similar commercial products out there, but Dove’s Beautiful Curls Range shines bright, promising soft, defined, and bouncy curls.

Conclusion:

Dove’s Beautiful Curls Range is a blessing for those seeking hydration and softness. It caters to all curl types and delivers impressive results. The defining gel, in particular, is a revelation in achieving curls that are defined, feel luxuriously soft, and voluminous, all at the same time.
